Mohican History

Currently during the summer and fall of 2002 the 225th anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga is being celebrated. Mohican and Oneida men participated in the various battles.

Descendants of the men who were part of the September and October battles are being sought. More information is available at Victory at Saratoga and the Northern Campaign.

On October 6, 2002, the Times Union published an ignorant and inaccurate article written by Kenneth C. Crowe III about Native Americans' participation in the American Revolution, leaving the Mohicans out completely. The Times Union unfairly refused to publish my letter correcting the article. It is strongly urged if you want more information about the Mohican people or possible Mohican ancestors to read the works listed in the bibliography before asking me questions. You will receive much more information that way.

My own genealogy

Schaghticoke, New York was an important Indian community in the 17th and 18th centuries. New information from "The Identity of the Saint Francis Indians" by Gordon M. Day, gives a clearer picture of this village in Mohican territory and contact period history for the Mohicans.
